As of Wednesday, traders on the Toronto Stock Exchange can buy and sell “WEED.”
That’s the new stock ticker symbol for Canopy Growth, an Ontario-based medical marijuana company that bills itself as “the largest legal cannabis business in the world.”
“Patients, investors and Canadians as a whole are more accepting of the cannabis sector today than ever before,” Canopy CEO Bruce Linton said in a statement.
While the West Virginia medical cannabis industry has another two years until its program is implemented, a delegation of legislators and business leaders traveled to Colorado to get a head start and study the Centennial State’s medical cannabis system.
On Aug. 14, 2017, the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission greenlit eight final cultivation licenses, meaning the newly licensed can finally start cultivating medical cannabis.
On Aug. 11, 2017, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission announced that it had issued a clarification on prohibited cannabis strain names in the state. The rules are intended to prevent strain names from appealing to minors and from misleading consumers.
