Where Are the United States’ Biggest Cannabis Consumers? Not Where You’d Expect


After perusing our debut State of the Leaf cannabis infographic, you may have pondered which state in the US has the highest concentration of cannabis consumers. You’re not alone if you guessed Washington or Colorado, the only two states legally selling recreational cannabis, but you would be wrong. Nor is it the predominate leader in all things liberal, California, who ranks a measly 10 out of 50 states in percent of population consuming cannabis in the past month (2011-2012 data from the NSUDH). No, it is the unassuming, smallest state in the union, Rhode Island, who trumps all the rest with a 13% cannabis population concentration. Here’s the skinny.
