Publix Heiress Donates $800K to Fight Medical Marijuana in Florida
According to state campaign finance records, the trust of Carol Jenkins Barnett, daughter of Publix founder George Jenkins, has donated $800,000 to the Drug Free Florida Committee, the group responsible for defeating the 2014 effort to legalize medical marijuana.
St. Petersburg, Florida, Considers Decriminalization Ordinance
Following its neighboring city of Tampa, Fla., the city of St. Petersburg, Fla., is considering an ordinance that would decriminalize marijuana, according to an April 28, 2016, report by Fox 13. On April 1, 2016, the penalty for possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana in Tampa shifted from arrests to citations.
