The devolution of marijuana regulation to states and, by extension, to even more local levels of government, is a two-edged sword that could ultimately limit and destabilize the legal marijuana market. Local control, like the issue of state’s rights, is an appealing concept at first blush, but it has some troubling side effects.


Alaska’s New Marijuana Control Board Votes on Four Issues

On July 1, 2015, Alaska Gov. Bill Walker announced the long-awaited appointment of the five members to the Marijuana Control Board. After their appointment was announced, the board quickly convened the next day to address some of the issues facing the fledgling marijuana market.


KTVA Reporter Quits On-Air, Reveals Herself as Owner of Alaska Cannabis Club

Reporter Charlo Greene quit on-air during KTVA-TV’s 10 p.m. newscast Sunday, revealing herself as the owner of the medical marijuana business Alaska Cannabis Club and telling viewers that she would be using all of her energy to fight for legalizing marijuana in Alaska.


Legalization Likely on Three Ballots

November 4, 2014 could be a very, very big night for advocates of legalization. Initiatives will likely be on the ballot in Oregon, Alaska and the District of Columbia. The two jurisdictions that now permit recreational use, Colorado and Washington, could become five overnight.
