Last summer, medical marijuana legalization in Greece was being studied by the country’s Ministry of Health, but that study lead to action and now legalization has become a reality for the Hellenic Republic.

On June 30, 2017, the Ministers of Health and Justice announced their joint ministerial decision in the Government Gazette.

“From now on, the country is turning its page, as Greece is now included in countries where the delivery of medical cannabis to patients in need is legal,” said Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, as reported by Neos Kosmos.

According to the joint ministerial ministerial announcement, several administrative and regulatory steps still need to be taken in order to implement medical marijuana legalization in Greece.

Greece going medical makes the Hellenic Republic the sixth country in the European Union to legalize medical marijuana, as reported by The Independent. The other countries in the EU with medical marijuana include Spain, Portugal, Finland, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.
