Indianapolis Colts Player Robert Turbin Cited for Possession in Utah

On July 8, 2016, Robert Turbin, a running back for the Indianapolis Colts, was cited for marijuana possession by the Logan City Police Department in Utah, as reported by The Salt Lake Tribune.

According to Logan Police Capt. Curtis Hooley, Turbin ran a stop sign just before 11:30 p.m. on July 8. During the stop, an officer smelled marijuana in Turbin’s car, at which point a K-9 unit was brought to the scene and alerted the LCPD to a joint in the car’s center console. It was determined that Turbin didn’t seem impaired so he was issued a citation and released.

The following day, on July 9, Turbin hosted a youth football camp at Utah State University; Turbin is the Utah State Aggies’ all-time rushing touchdown leader.

Turbin’s arraignment is scheduled for July 26, where he’ll face a class B misdemeanor charge. And while current and former NFL players may be calling for the NFL to drop the ban on marijuana, Turbin could also face a punishment from the league.

According to Indy Star, “the punishment through the league for a first offense is suspension without pay for up to four regular or post-season games.”

On Feb. 22, the Indianapolis Colts released linebacker Jonathan Newsome from his contract after Newsome was arrested for marijuana possession on Feb. 17. The Colts have not yet revealed Turbin’s fate.

A police dash cam video, obtained by WISH-TV, recorded Turbin’s stop and can be viewed below.
